Accessibility
Maple Neighbours is designed to be usable by as many people as possible, including those using keyboard navigation, screen readers, or reduced-motion settings.
What we do
- Keyboard navigation. Use Tab to reach interactive elements, Enter to follow links, and Space to toggle checkboxes. A skip link lets you jump straight to the main content.
- Visible focus. Focus states are clearly outlined for keyboard users.
- 44px touch targets. Buttons, navigation links, guide cards and checklist controls provide at least 44×44px targets. Links within sentences follow the surrounding text size.
- Reduced motion. Animations and transitions are reduced when your system requests reduced motion.
- Readable without JavaScript. Guides, the guide list, and all trust pages work without JavaScript. The search filter and checklist are enhanced by JavaScript but degrade gracefully.
- Semantic HTML. Pages use proper headings, landmarks, and lists so screen readers can navigate by structure.
- Colour contrast. We check text contrast with automated accessibility tests. These checks do not replace a full accessibility audit.
- Plain language. Guides are written for a broad adult audience and avoid jargon where possible.
Known limitations
- Without JavaScript, navigation and all guides remain available. Search filters, checklist progress, and the print and reset buttons require JavaScript; browser printing still works.
- This is a preview build; a full third-party accessibility audit is part of the pre-launch checklist.
Feedback
This is a pre-launch project without a working contact channel yet. Accessibility issues found before launch will be tracked and fixed before any public release. If you are reviewing this preview and find a barrier, please note it so it can be addressed.
