About Maple Neighbours
Maple Neighbours is an independent, pre-launch nonprofit initiative. Its goal is to help newcomers to Canada find plain-language guides to the paperwork, services, and people who can help them settle — from the Social Insurance Number to provincial health cards, libraries, transit, work, language classes, and community services.

What this project is
- A set of free, readable guides written in plain English, each citing real, authoritative Canadian sources.
- A flexible first-steps checklist that stays in your browser and can be printed.
- A Canada-wide resource discovery page with explicit province and jurisdiction labels.
Community support & food sharing
The assistance finder offers selected program and referral starting points, with eligibility boundaries and sources—not an eligibility decision. The food guides explain date labels, safe storage, waste prevention and Ontario donation boundaries. A small Greater Toronto Area food-location directory pairs a geographic overview with a complete accessible list.
Canada-wide information is labelled separately from Ontario programs and local entries. These resources are independently curated; none of the listed services is claimed as a partner, and source checks do not establish availability or endorse a provider.
What this project is not
- Not a registered charity or organization. Maple Neighbours is our chosen name; formal name approval and registration are pending. No registration number, board, partners, or impact numbers are claimed.
- Not an immigration, legal, or medical adviser. Guides describe general processes; they do not determine your eligibility or give personal advice.
- Not a government agency. We link to official government sources but are independent of them.
- No accounts required. Browsing and checklists do not collect personal information. An optional newsletter sign-up collects only the details you choose to submit; see our privacy policy. A public monitored contact address is not yet available.
Pre-launch transparency
The preferred website address is mapleneighbours.ca. The initiative remains pre-launch: public hosting does not establish legal registration, professional review or affiliation. The following must still be verified and decided:
- Formal name approval for Maple Neighbours; the website domain is registered.
- Legal organization identity, jurisdiction, and any registration or charity status.
- A monitored contact channel (none exists yet; we will not display a fake email).
- Independent legal, privacy, and accessibility review.
- A content review and update workflow with named reviewers.
- The preferred public URL is https://mapleneighbours.ca/. Domain registration does not establish legal organization status.
